ENG vs IND, 2nd ODI, took place on July 16 at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
England defeated India in the 2nd ODI on Thursday (July 16) to make a comeback in the three-match series. The hosts chased down a 234-run target with four wickets to spare in the encounter. Harry Brook won the toss and opted to field first, and the plan worked as they did not allow India to reach a big total.
Shubman Gill (31) and Rohit Sharma (26) etched an opening stand of 44 runs. One-down Virat Kohli (65) scored a fabulous fifty and made a crucial stand of 60 runs with Sharma and 67 runs with Shreyas Iyer (66).
Once Kohli and Iyer lost their wickets, the rest of the batters failed to provide the necessary support. India experienced a batting collapse in the lower order and were bowled out for just 233 runs in 44 overs. Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson each took three wickets, effectively dismantling India’s batting lineup.
In the chase, England lost opener Ben Duckett for a duck and Jacob Bethell for 4. Dismissing four batters before 100 runs on the board, India got off to a brilliant start with the ball.
However, Joe Root (99*) held his patience on one end and slammed an unbeaten half-century to bring the team home. He was also awarded Player of the Match. After the clash, the three-match series is tied 1-1.
