The Indian Cricket Team had a dismal start in the T20I series against England, losing the second game at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester by 4 wickets. With the victory, England have gained a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The opening game between both sides was washed out due to rain.
Indian skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first in the clash, in which Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his international debut. Since none of the batters could score half-centuries, the Men in Blue could not cross the 200-run mark on the board and had to settle for 190/7.
Abhishek Sharma (43), Ishan Kishan (49), and Iyer (37) were among the best performers with the bat, while Tilak Varma contributed a crucial unbeaten 24 runs.
In the chase, England lost both openers, Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, for ducks; however, captain Harry Brook scored 39 runs. Jacob Bethell scored an unbeaten 76* to play a crucial role in the chase, while Tom Banton also added 39 runs. With five sixes and an equal number of fours, Bethell propelled the hosts to victory by four wickets in just 19 overs.
While Arshdeep Singh was the leading wicket-taker for India with three wickets, Sam Curran was the best performer for England with his three-wicket haul. Bethel was awarded Player of the Match for his impeccable knock.
