‘Red for Ruth’ day is being observed on second day of the ENG vs IND test at the Lord’s.

The day two of the ongoing third test between England and India at the Lord’s has been transformed into a sea of red for the seventh annual ‘Red for Ruth’ day.

The third test between England and India began on July 10 with home captain Ben Stokes winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Both teams made one change each to their XIs, with Jofra Archer playing his first test for England since 2021 and Jasprit Bumrah replacing Prasidh Krishna in the India XI.

Openers Zak Crawley (18) and Ben Duckett (23) fell in one over to Nitish Kumar Reddy. Ollie Pope (44) and Joe Root added more than 100 runs for the third wicket before Pope was dismissed by Jadeja, thanks to a brilliant catch by Dhruv Jurel, who kept wickets in place of injured Rishabh Pant.

Harry Brook then fell for 11 runs, but Joe Root continued to hold one end up. England ended day one on 251/4 with Joe Root on 99 and Ben Stokes on 34.

Second day of the Lord’s test is dedicated to Ruth Strauss, late wife of Andrew Strauss, who passed due to cancer

The Lord’s turf was covered in red, and players from India and England were arranged in a heart-shaped pattern. As the youngsters rang the ceremonial bell to begin day 2, former England captain Andrew Strauss, match officials, and children gathered at the center. As a show of respect and remembrance, the audience erupted in cheers.

Ruth Strauss, the late wife of former England captain Andrew Strauss, is remembered on this particular day, which has grown to be a major event in England’s home summer calendar.

At the age of 46, Ruth Strauss lost her fight with non-smoking lung cancer in December 2018. The Ruth Strauss Foundation was founded in her honor to support studies into uncommon types of lung cancer and assist families in overcoming the psychological challenges associated with parent loss.

The Foundation, through the generosity and support of fans over the past six years, has already supported over 3,500 family members navigating grief and trained more than 1,000 cancer care professionals in handling bereavement.

The first year was obviously a deeply emotional time for me and my boys. It’s a very proud time for me to see how far the foundation has come, and it makes me feel very warm and fuzzy inside to know that we are helping so many people and, in some way, holding their hands through an incredibly tough time in their lives. Cricket is my home, and hopefully will always be my home.

The two things coming together [cricket and the cause] create a great day, but that is very much the focal point and the centrepiece. What makes me even more proud is hearing stories of schools and clubs doing their own versions of Red For Ruth. They don’t know me or Ruth personally, but they feel connected to the cause,” Andrew Strauss said ahead of the beginning of the day.

Where is the third ENG vs IND test being played at?
