Only two England batsmen have scored more than 6000 runs in ODI cricket.

One-Day International (ODI) cricket used to produce good competition between the bat and the ball years back, but since the new regulations have come, including two new balls, it has become more of a batters’ game.

Once known to offer challenging batting conditions at their home conditions, England have also witnessed a change in terms of scoring rates in ODI cricket. Their batting revolution after the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup caught everyone’s attention with an ultra-attacking approach.

On that note, let’s take a look at top five England batsmen with most runs in ODI cricket.

5. Jos Buttler – 5022 runs

Current England captain Jos Buttler has evolved into one of the most important players for England in both of the white-ball formats.

Starting his career as a slogger, Buttler has now adapted his game to build innings and finish strongly with big hits. He has also significantly improved his game against spin.

The 34-year-old has racked up 5022 ODI runs in 154 innings at an average of 39.54 and strike rate of 117.11.

4. Paul Collingwood – 5092 runs

Paul Collingwood is perhaps the most underrated batsman of his era.

Making his international debut in 2001, Collingwood finished his career as one of the white-ball specialists for England with 5092 runs in 181 ODI innings at an average of 35.36 and strike rate of 77.

Additionally, he was also a handy part-timer bowler and took 111 wickets in his ODI career at an average of 38.68

3. Ian Bell – 5416 runs

Known for his glorious cover drives, Ian Bell in next on the list with 5416 runs in 157 ODI innings at an average of 37.87 and strike rate of 77.16.

Bell began his career as a middle-order batsman, but was often tried in different roles in the England lineup. In the later stage of his career, he became a regular opener for England in the 50-over format.

He played his last ODI game against Afghanistan during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in Sydney.

2. Joe Root – 6522 runs

Modern-day great Joe Root is one of England’s most reliable players across all formats. The 34-year-old made his ODI debut in 2013 against India in Rajkot and has since scored 6,522 runs in 160 innings, at an average of 47.6 and a strike rate of 86.77.

Root’s role in the England team has become even more important in recent years. With a team full of big-hitting stars, England rely on Root to anchor the innings and guide them to hold one side of the partnerships.

1. Eoin Morgan – 6957 runs

Former England captain Eoin Morgan tops this list with 6957 runs in 207 ODI innings, which he scored at an average of 39.75 and strike rate of 93.89. With 42 half-centuries, Morgan has hit the most half-centuries for England in ODIs.

Morgan’s highest individual score in the format came during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, where he smashed 148 runs off 71 balls against Afghanistan including four fours and 17 sixes.
