In a big setback to England, Ollie Pope is ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes 2023

England vice-captain Ollie Pope will miss the remainder of Ashes 2023.
Already struggling with multiple losses in the ongoing Ashes series, England have suffered another setback before the Leeds test. Middle-order batsman and vice-captain Ollie Pope has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes 2023 series due to an injury.
Ollie Pope has dislocated his shoulder at Lord’s and will be sitting out of the rest of the remaining three tests. After a double century against Ireland, Ollie Pope failed to score a fifty against Australia in both of test matches. It’s unlikely that England will be announcing a replacement for Ollie Pope as the third Test is scheduled to begin on 6th July.
Dan Lawrence will be replacing England's number three. Pope scored only 3 runs in the second innings of the Lord’s test. Ollie Pope underwent scans on Monday that revealed the seriousness of the injury and which forced Pope out of the remaining Ashes 2023. Pope will be undergoing surgery soon and will follow the rehabilitation under the guidance of the England and Surrey county medical team. Pope injured his shoulder on day 3 but had to field as the umpires didn’t allow a substitute for Pope as he had batted in the first innings. After Pope moves out of the camp, Stuart Broad will be stepping in as the vice-captain of the team.
Earlier the Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon was also ruled out from the remainder of the Ashes series due to an injury. Lyon was ruled out due to a severe Calf strain. 25-Year-old Dan Lawrence is set to make his return to Test cricket after a 15 months gap. Lawrence played his last test for England against West Indies in March 2022. Lawrence has played 11 tests so far in his career and has scored 551 runs at an average of just 29, Lawrence will be taking responsibility for England’s number three batting spot.
