England are set to begin their home summer against India with a five-match T20I series starting on July 1. The series will mark the side’s first T20I assignment since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and will provide an opportunity to test combinations ahead of the upcoming campaigns.
The home team is likely to play both experienced international players who have had success in T20 cricket and a few new players who are making a name for themselves in this format.
Moreover, even after the T20 World Cup concludes, this series will continue to offer England an opportunity to improve further as a team.
The selectors have chosen a larger squad for this series against India for several reasons. Firstly, to manage player workloads throughout a hectic international schedule and secondly, to determine the depth of each player’s areas within the overall team.
Harry Brook to lead England against India
The Three Lions have named a 17-member squad for the five-match T20I series against India, with Harry Brook set to lead the side. Former white-ball captain Jos Buttler remains in the squad, while Jofra Archer has also been included as he continues his return to international cricket.
The planning for this series has included a mixture of both experienced and emerging talent. Rehan Ahmed, Jacob Bethell, Jordan Cox and Josh Tongue have retained their places, whilst Somerset’s fast bowler Sonny Baker and all-rounder James Coles have received their call-up within the squad.
Tom Banton returns to England’s T20I team due to his excellent performances in both domestic and franchise cricket.
Adding even more strength to England’s batting and all-round department are Phil Salt, Will Jacks and Sam Curran. Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, Liam Dawson and Luke Wood bring experience to the line-up and also assist the squad’s overall strength.
