Virender Sehwag said that by playing attacking cricket, batters can give their team a higher chance of winning a test match.
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag explained his thoughts about how T20 cricket is influencing young cricketers to play an aggressive brand in test cricket. He highlighted that aggressive cricket in the longest format will encourage fans to watch the test match.
Under the Brendon McCullum-Ben Stokes era, the England cricket team has revolutionized the test format. The English side have been scoring runs at a higher rate than any other team.
I scored a triple century in 270 balls, but today’s batters will score 400 runs in those many balls: Sehwag
During his career, Sehwag was a rare breed of batter who used to take the attack to the bowlers even in test cricket.
Batters over the past decade have started to take the aggressive route in the two longer formats after being influenced by T20 cricket.
During the launch event of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), organized by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), Sehwag highlighted this shift. Sehwag further added that he always felt that if a batter can attack, it will give his side more chances to win the test matches.
“England are scoring at five runs an over. In our playing days, Australia averaged 4 runs per over. If you attack rivals in Test cricket, there are more chances of your team winning the contest,” Sehwag was said.
“If anyone develops an aggressive game that suits Test cricket, there is no problem. We want people to come to the stadium and watch Test cricket. I scored a triple century in 270 balls in Test cricket. Today’s players might score 400 if they face that many deliveries,” he added.
