Eoin Morgan has pulled himself out of contention for England’s limited-overs coach’s job.

Former England captain Eoin Morgan wishes former India coach Rahul Dravid to become the next white-ball head coach for the England Cricket Team.

On July 30, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that their white-ball coach Matthew Mott has resigned from the job after England’s semi-final exit in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The ECB further stated that assistant coach Marcus Trescothick will be the interim head coach for the white-ball games of their home season.

Notably, Mott stepped down from the white-ball coach after a stint of two years while he had two more years left in his contract.

In my eyes, go with Rahul Dravid: Eoin Morgan

Rahul Dravid had an impressive record during his tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.

During Dravid’s tenure, India lifted the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June and also won the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka, apart from reaching the finals of the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup in 2023.

As Marcus Trescothick serves as assistant white-ball coach, the ECB is in a hunt for their next full-time coach.

In order to fast-track the search, England’s 2019 World Cup-winning captain, Eoin Morgan, has shortlisted a few candidates. The list includes Rahul Dravid, Ricky Ponting and Stephen Fleming.

“You got to remember, it’s the England cricket team, it’s one of the most resourced cricket teams in the world, so it is up to Rob [Key] to make that role as attractive as possible. So you then go to the best coaches or highly regarded coaches in the world and say ‘Well, this is a job that you want to do as opposed to having to second guess it,” Morgan told Sky Sports.

“In my eyes, at the moment, you would go to Rahul Dravid, Ricky Ponting, Stephen Fleming, and Brendon McCullum. I say McCullum because I believe he is one of the best coaches in the world,” Morgan added.
