KL Rahul last played for India in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

On August 22, 2024, star Indian wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul shared a mysterious story on his Instagram handle. He wrote, “I have an announcement to make, stay tuned. This message from Rahul to his fans spread like wildfire on social media handles but it took an interesting turn.

Hours after Rahul shared this message on his Instagram story, another Instagram story went viral in which the cricketer apparently announced his retirement from professional cricket.

“After much reflection and consideration, I have decided to announce my retirement from professional cricket. This decision has not been easy, as the sport has been a significant part of my life for many years,” the rumored Instagram story of KL Rahul read.

“I am deeply grateful for the support and encouragement from my family, friends, teammates, and fans throughout my career. The experiences and memories I have gained on and off the field are truly invaluable. I am honoured to have represented my country and played alongside so many talented individuals,” the rumored story added.

Fact Check: Has KL Rahul retired?

No, when Khel Now fact-checked the viral retirement Instagram story of KL Rahul, it appeared that the Indian cricketer hadn’t made any such announcement. On Rahul’s Instagram, no such retirement story was posted. The retirement story can be concluded as fake, made up by fans for only fun and trolling.

It is believed that Rahul’s original Instagram story, ‘I have an announcement to make, stay tuned,’ is for promoting a brand and is not related to cricket matters.

Rahul was last seen playing for India in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The wicket-keeper batter had a forgettable series. In two matches, Rahul scored only 31 runs at a poor average of 15.50. The veteran cricketer was dropped from the final match of the series and was replaced by Rishabh Pant.
