Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav have struggled to score runs in T20Is of late.

The Indian Cricket Team captain Suryakumar Yadav and vice-captain Shubman Gill yet again failed in the T20Is, leaving team management with a lot of concern with the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 around the corner. Both failed to go big in the second T20I against South Africa, which is underway in New Chandigarh.

After India were set a massive target of 214 to chase, it was expected that Shubman Gill would take his team off to a flying start with conditions being good for batting. However, that wasn’t the case as he failed yet again in the format.

Shubman Gill bagged a golden duck and this now raises concerns over his place in the T20Is, especially with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the wings. In the last 14 T20Is, he has managed just 263 runs at an average of around 23 and a strike rate of over 142.

His scores read: 20* (9), 10 (7), 5 (8), 47 (28), 29 (19), 4 (3), 12 (10), 37* (20), 5 (10), 15 (12), 46 (39), 29* (16), 4 (2), 0 (1).

After Gill got out, the spotlight was on captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is also under the scanner for his poor record of late. He walked out to bat at four and started in a brilliant fashion, smashing a magical boundary.

But, after that, he too perished as he was removed by Marco Jansen for five in just four balls. With his wicket, India came under massive pressure as they lost their third wicket and were left reeling at 32 for three inside the first four overs.

In the last 20 T20s, Suryakumar Yadav has slammed just 227 runs at an average of just around 13 to go with a strike rate of under 120. His scores read: 21 (17), 4 (9), 1 (4), 0 (3), 12 (7), 14 (7), 0 (4), 2 (3), 7* (2), 47* (37), 0 (3), 5 (11), 12 (13), 1 (5), 39* (24), 1 (4), 24 (11), 20 (10), 12 (11), 5 (4).
