Earlier, Joe Root also hit a century on day three and eventually got out for 150 runs. Stokes then took the onus on him and registered his 14th century in test cricket and first in two years. He is having a staggering game as he also picked a five-wicket haul with the ball. He became the fourth England player to grab a fifer and score a century in a test match.
With Stokes’ ton, England crossed 600 runs on the board in the first innings. The hosts have earned a 200-plus lead in the encounter and are dictating the terms in the Manchester test.
