Virat Kohli scored only six runs on his Ranji Trophy return.

Despite heavy security, three fans managed to run into the ground and meet Virat Kohli on day 3 of the Delhi vs Railways Ranji Trophy match.

Kohli marked his Ranji Trophy return this week for Delhi in his side’s last league game against Railways, which was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

A large number of fans had flocked to the venue to witness the former Indian captain in action in what his first Ranji Trophy match since 2012.

The DDCA had beefed up the security as over 10,000 fans attended the first two days of the match. Kohli got to bat on day 2 of the game but had a disappointing outing as he was bowled for only six runs by pacer Himanshu Sangwan.

Comparing to the first two days, there was a much smaller crowd on day 3 as Delhi charged towards an innings victory and the chances of Kohli getting to bat again were bleak.

While on the first day of the match one fan had managed to sneak through the tight security and meet Kohli in the middle of the ground, on day 3, three fans did the same.

Three men sprinted straight towards Kohli, who was near the pitch. Two of them managed to touch Kohli’s feet. More than 10 security persons also ran and grabbed the three trespassers. Play was held on for a while as the security and the ground officials dragged the three men out of the field.

After his Ranji game, Kohli will fly to Nagpur, where India will play England in the first ODI of the three-match series. While Kohli’s test form has dwindled, he would back himself to return to his best in ODI cricket. Not too long ago, he had amassed over 700 runs in the World Cup 2023.

The England series provides him a great opportunity to return to form ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
