The NAM vs OMN match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was decided in the Super Over with David Wiese becoming the hero for Namibia.
Veteran T20 all-rounder David Wiese turned a hero once again for Namibia as he won his adopted country the NAM vs OMN match number 3 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Namibia and Oman played out a low-scoring thriller on Sunday night at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, where Wiese, a former South African international cricketer, stepped up with both bat and ball in the Super Over to open the account for Namibia on the points table.
Asked to bat first, on a sluggish surface in Barbados, Oman posted only 109 runs on the board. They were all out in 19.4 overs with Wiese taking three wickets and Ruben Trumpelmann taking a four-wicket haul.
In the chase, Namibia remained on par with the required rate but suffered a collapse late in their innings, forced by a stunning spell of 3-1-7-3 from Mehran Khan. It came down to two runs needed on the last ball and Wiese could only sneak a bye off it.
The match entered the Super Over where Wiese rocked up first with the bat and smashed Bilal Khan for 4, 6 on the first two balls. Erasmus completed the Super Over with a couple of boundaries as Namibia ended with 21 runs. Wiese was given the bowling duties as well and he conceded 10 runs in the Super Over to Namibia to their first win of the tournament.
Twitterati reacts as David Wiese turned a hero in the Super Over in the NAM vs OMN match:
Wiese duly bagged the Man of the Match award. The all-rounder said, “Just been that kind of an emotionally draining game. (On his Super Over bowling) I had a feel for the wicket and knew what I had to execute in the Super Over. The pitch was difficult, was a bit two-paced and different to what we expected. I think we adapted well and it was surely a pitch where you had to spend some time out there.”
