Arshdeep Singh, ever since his debut, has been the mainstay of the Indian bowling in the T20Is.

The Indian Cricket Team are up against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their Asia Cup 2025 opener. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Wednesday (September 10).

India surprised many as they went ahead with the spin-heavy attack, picking just one frontline pacer in Jasprit Bumrah. This means that Arshdeep Singh had to warm the bench. This comes as a big shock as the left-arm pacer has been amongst the best bowlers going in the format.

Arshdeep Singh, who is the leading wicket-taker for India in T20Is, getting dropped means that he will have to wait to get to 100 T20I wickets. The pacer is currently at 99, and it was expected that he would get to the milestone in the game against the UAE. Notably, he will become the first Indian bowler to reach 100 wickets in the format.

Arshdeep Singh, ever since his debut, has been the mainstay of the Indian bowling in the T20Is. He was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with 17 wickets to his name. His heroics with the ball helped India win the tournament, beating South Africa in the final.

India not picking Arshdeep Singh in the XI means that they will be continuing with the spin-heavy attack in the tournament. They did the same during ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which was also played in Dubai, and the Men in Blue registered a title win without even losing a single game.

The Indian combination for the UAE game features three all-rounders in Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube. Along with them, both Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy have found a place in the team. They would be hoping that this combination pays off and they win.
