Travis Head scored 123 runs in the fourth innings of Perth test to take Australia to 8-wicket win.

Australia wrapped up the opening Ashes 2025-26 test in Perth within just two days, sealing a dominant win over England on November 22, 2025. Travis Head and Mitchell Starc were the standout performers as the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Ben Stokes opted to bat after winning the toss, but England’s innings crumbled under Mitchell Starc’s career-best 7/58, managing only 172. England’s bowlers responded strongly, bundling out Australia for 132, with Stokes taking 5/23, Brydon Carse 3/45, and Jofra Archer claiming two wickets. A remarkable 19 wickets fell on the opening day.

England had an opportunity to set a challenging target in the second innings but faltered once more, posting just 164. Gus Atkinson (37) and Ollie Pope (33) top-scored, while Scott Boland’s 4/33, along with three wickets each from Starc and Brendan Doggett, ensured another collapse. Starc finished the match with an impressive 10-wicket haul.

Australia was set 205 runs to win the test, and they went to work in clinical precision. With Usman Khawaja hurting his back again, Australia decided to send Travis Head as the opener with Jake Weatherald instead of Marnus Labuschagne.

And the move proved to be a brilliant one. Travis Head took the attack to England bowlers and raced off to a 69-ball century. Head’s fearless strokeplay gave England a dose of their own aggression, as he brought up his century in just 69 balls — the joint third-fastest by an Australian in test cricket.

England’s all-pace attack looked stunned as Head repeatedly punished their errant lines, carving boundaries through the off-side to the roaring approval of the Perth crowd.

Head succeeded in his increased batting role, relieving some of the load on debutant Jake Weatherald, who had a duck in his maiden innings. With Head scoring freely at the other end, Weatherald settled in, hitting a few eye-catching smashes before falling for 23 on a Brydon Carse short ball.

Head’s century attracted huge acclaim from the home crowd, as he finished with a scorching 123 off 83 deliveries, including 16 fours and four sixes. His attack propelled Australia to a comfortable eight-wicket victory. Mitchell Starc won the Player of the Match award for his ten-wicket haul.

Cricket fans and cricket fraternity reacted to Travis Head’s brilliant batting on social media and congratulated Australia for their brilliant win.
