After a tough tour of the UK, there have been some big changes to the Indian management. Ryan ten Doeschate stepped down as assistant coach, and T. Dilip was sacked as fielding coach.
India are scheduled to play two tests in Sri Lanka, starting on August 15 (Saturday) at Galle International Stadium. Ahead of the start of the series, the BCCI has appointed Subhadeep Ghosh as the new fielding coach.
Ghosh has played 17 FC games and 17 List A matches. He will join batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Morne Morkel, and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Below, we will talk about five fascinating facts about India’s new fielding coach.

5. Experience at the National Cricket Academy (NCA)
After retiring as a cricketer, Ghosh prepared to take up coaching with his state team, Assam. He was quite successful as a coach and was also associated with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
He worked under Indian legends like Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman and played a pivotal role in grooming young Indian talent. He was also part of the India A tour of Sri Lanka as the fielding coach.
4. Represented Assam and Railways at the domestic level
Born in Digboi, Assam, Subhadeep Ghosh made his first-class debut in the 1994-95 season. He has played for Assam and Railways in his cricketing career. Since his debut, he has played 17 first-class games, where he scored 316 runs at an average of 12.64.
He also scored two half-centuries, and his highest was 59. His final FC game was in November 2004 against UP. Ghosh has also played 17 List A matches, scoring 307 runs with a best of 61. His last List A match was against Jharkhand in January 2005.
3. Served as a fielding coach for India U19 during the U19 World Cup 2026
India U19 made history and won the 2026 U19 World Cup in South Africa under Ayush Mhatre. They beat England in the final in Harare. Ghosh played a key role in that campaign.
Indian players performed well in the tournament with bat and ball, as well as in the field. Under his guidance, India were pretty effective on the field. That is what he will hope to do with the senior men’s team.
2. Worked as fielding coach with India’s women’s team
This will not be the first time Subhadeep Ghosh works with India’s top athletes. In fact, he has worked with Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, and many Indian women cricketers during his stint with the women’s team.
He served as the fielding coach with India’s women’s team for the multi-format tour of Australia. Ghosh was also with the team as the fielding coach during the 2023 Asian Games.

Not just in domestic cricket, Ghosh has also been part of the Indian Premier League. In fact, he was a key part of the Kolkata Knight Riders, which won the IPL title in the 2014 edition.
KKR won the title under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir, who is India’s current head coach. Ghosh also worked as fielding coach for Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
