5. Hardik Pandya – 86 balls vs SL, Pallekele, 2017 :
All-rounder Hardik Pandya made his fastest test century record in his 3rd test innings. Hardik Pandya smashed a 86-ball century against Sri Lanka at Pallekele Cricket Stadium in August 2017. Pandya went on to score 108 runs batting at number 8 in just 96 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes. His powerful all-round performance in the series helped India win the three-match series by a margin of 3-0 against Sri Lanka.
4. Shikhar Dhawan – 85 balls vs AUS, Mohali, 2013 :
This was the innings when Shikhar Dhawan announced himself at the International level. Making his test debut in Mohali, Shikhar Dhawan smashed a 85-ball hundred against Australia and went on to score 187 runs in 174 balls including 33 fours and two sixes. It is also the fastest century by a batsman on test cricket debut.
3. Virender Sehwag – 78 balls vs WI, St Lucia, 2006 :
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag was known for his aggressive batting approach in test cricket. Sehwag scored his fastest century in just 78 balls against West Indies in St. Lucia. Sehwag played a mammoth knock of 180 runs against West Indies in just 190 balls. Sehwag smashed 20 fours and 2 sixes in his innings at St. Lucia in 2006. This game ended in a draw.
2. Mohammad Azharuddin – 74 balls vs SA, Kolkata, 1996 :
Former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin holds the record for the joint-fastest test century for India in tests. Azharuddin played a magnificent knock at the Eden Gardens against South Africa in 1996. Azhar smashed his century in just 74 balls. He smacked 18 fours and a six during his knock to help India lower the first innings deficit. Azharuddin scored 109 off 77 deliveries in the innings.
1. Kapil Dev – 74 balls vs SL, Kanpur, 1986 :
Former Indian all-rounder and 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev holds the record of fastest century hit by an Indian batsman in test cricket. He smashed a 74-ball century against Sri Lanka in Kanpur test in 1986. Kapil went on to score 163 runs in 165 balls with 19 fours and a six in a high-scoring draw match.
