Only one Indian batsman has hit a fifty within 30 balls in test cricket.
Test cricket is a format of patience, but there have been moments when batters come out with an aggressive intent. In Indian cricket, a number of batters have recorded impactful batting performances.
Such performances get marked in the record books. This blog is all about the fastest fifties scored by Indian batters in test cricket. Indian cricket has been blessed by some really good batting resources.
And this elite list will include some of the destructive test batters that India have produced. Below, we will talk about the top five fastest half-centuries by Indian batters in test cricket.

5. Shardul Thakur – 31 balls vs England, 2021
Shardul Thakur has had many impactful performances in test cricket. Some of them have come with the ball, while some of them have come with the bat as well. His best batting display came against England at the Oval in 2021, when he scored two half-centuries in two innings.
In the first innings, he slammed a 31-ball fifty and made 57 off 36, which helped India reach 191. He also scored 60 off 72 in the second innings. India won that match by 157 runs.
4. Yashasvi Jaiswal – 31 balls vs Bangladesh, 2024

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the best strikers of the ball among the coming stars of Indian cricket. He has already played some impactful innings and established himself as a dangerous batter.
He slammed a 31-ball fifty against Bangladesh in Kanpur in September 2024. It was a rain-hit game, and India needed quick runs. Jaiswal made 72 off 51 balls, with 12 fours and two sixes in this innings. He helped India reach the quickest team 50, 100 and 200.
3. Kapil Dev – 30 balls vs Pakistan, 1982
Batting down the order, Kapil Dev played many match-winning knocks in his career. One such knock came against arch-rivals Pakistan in Karachi in December 1982, when he slammed a 30-ball fifty when the team was struggling.
Kapil scored 73 off 53, with 12 fours and one six, which helped India reach 163 in the first innings. He also took 5/102 with the ball. But India lost that game by an innings and 86 runs.
2. Rishabh Pant – 29 balls vs Australia, 2025
Rishabh Pant is the only Indian batsman to hit a test fifty under 30 balls twice and his second fifty under 30 balls came against Australia in New Year’s test at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2025.
Walking out to bat at 59/3 in the second innings, Pant started his innings in his own fashion by hitting a six off the first delivery he faced. Then, he went on to smash six fours and four sixes en-route to 61 runs in 32 balls before getting dismissed on the 33rd delivery. He reached his fifty in just 29 balls, which is the second-fastest fifty by an Indian batter in the longest format of the game.
1. Rishabh Pant – 28 balls vs Sri Lanka, 2022

Rishabh Pant is one of the most entertaining batters in test cricket. It is because of his fearless batting mindset, and he holds the record for the fastest fifty by an Indian batter in test cricket.
He slammed a 28-ball fifty in Bengaluru against Sri Lanka in March 2022. India needed quick runs, and Pant scored 50 off 31 balls in the second innings. That innings helped the team reach 303/9d in 68.5 overs, and they later won the game by 238 runs.
