Two batsmen from the current edition have secured a place on the list.

South African captain Aiden Markram has become the most recent player to join the list of top 10 players with the fastest fifties. Meanwhile, earlier in the same campaign, Dasun Shanaka secured a spot on the exclusive list.

While the list is full of the names of top cricket stars who have participated in the T20 World Cup, it also includes a few surprises. Thus, without any further ado, let’s take a look at the top 10 batsmen with the fastest fifties in T20 World Cup history.

10. Mohammad Ashraful: 20 balls

Former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful played a crucial role in his side’s win over the West Indies in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Changing the target to 165, Ashraful scored 61 runs off 27 balls, and his fifty was completed only in 20 deliveries.

Aiden Markram has joined the exclusive list with his half-century against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026. Chasing a target of 176, the Proteas skipper played a match-winning innings, helping his side record the triumph with 17 deliveries remaining.

Markram completed his 50 in 19 deliveries and then continued to hit with a strike rate of 195, scoring a total of 86 runs. Additionally, he has also scored the fastest half-century by a Proteas batter in the T20 World Cup.

8. Dasun Shanaka: 19 balls

Earlier in the campaign, Sri Lanka’s captain, Dasun Shanaka, also put his foot on the accelerator and scored a fifty in 19 deliveries.

However, he was dismissed by Jitenkumar Ramanandi in the next delivery, but the co-hosts accumulated a total of 225 and won the match by 105 runs. Shanaka hit two fours and five maximums with a strike rate of 250 in his innings.

7. Rohit Sharma: 19 balls

In the Super 8 game against Australia at the 2024 World Cup, after Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck, Rohit Sharma stepped forward and completed his half-century in 19 deliveries.

Sharma was hitting big shots; however, he fell short of completing a century by only eight runs. Nevertheless, he played with a strike rate of 224, hitting seven fours and eight maximums.

6. Shoaib Malik: 18 balls

Playing against Scotland in a Super 12 game at the 2021 World Cup, Shoaib Malik scored 54 runs off 18 deliveries after he came to bat at the fifth position. The former Pakistani batsman smashed six maximums and had a strike rate of 300. Pakistan won the match by 72 runs.

Facing India in the Super 12, Scotland got all out for 85. Attempting to complete the chase early, KL Rahul decided to make big hits. He completed his fifty in 18 deliveries (6 fours and 3 sixes) and was dismissed on the next ball by Mark Watt. However, the Men in Blue won the match in only 39 balls.

Glenn Maxwell displayed his batting prowess against Pakistan at the 2014 World Cup. After completing his fifty in 18 deliveries, the Australian veteran went on to score 77 runs off 33 balls, with a strike rate of 224; however, due to a batting collapse on the other side, the Aussies lost the match by 16 runs.

3. Marcus Stoinis: 17 balls

Marcus Stoinis gave the Sri Lankan bowlers a tough time in the 2022 World Cup Super 12, scoring 56 runs off 18 deliveries, helping the Aussies win the match by seven wickets. In the innings, Stoinis had a strike rate of 327 as he hit four boundaries and six maximums.

2. Stephan Myburgh: 17 balls

Stephan Myburgh completed his fifty in only 17 deliveries against Ireland in the group stage of the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup.

Myburgh’s explosive innings helped the Dutch team defeat Ireland by six wickets and more than six overs remaining. With a strike rate of 273, Myburgh scored 63 runs off 23 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and seven sixes.

Yuvraj Singh’s ruthless 12-ball fifty is still an untouched record in the T20 World Cup history. In the last two decades, no player has come close to breaking the record, and it seems like it will remain at the pinnacle for a prolonged period.

With three boundaries and six maximums, the former Indian all-rounder scripted history in the first edition of the tournament, helping the Men in Blue win the match against England by 18 runs. Singh’s strike rate in the match was 362.
