Former India fielding coach R Sridhar joins Afghanistan as assistant coach

R Sridhar served as India’s fielding coach for seven years.
Former India fielding coach R Sridhar has been roped in by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) as an assistant coach for of their upcoming matches against New Zealand and South Africa. He will link up with the team for a one-month and his role could be extended.
Sridhar will join former England batsman Jonathan Trott, who is serving as Afghanistan’s head coach.
In September, Afghanistan will be hosting New Zealand in a one-off test in Greater Noida, followed by three ODIs against South Africa in Sharjah.
The ACB said in their statement, “It is worth mentioning that the Afghanistan Cricket Board has appointed Sridhar as the assistant coach for the one-off Test against New Zealand and the 3-match ODI series against South Africa. The Afghanistan Cricket Board wish Sridhar fills the role effectively and hope to have long term contract with him in the future.”
R Sridhar’s coaching career:
R Sridhar rose in stature and reputation during his long stint as the fielding coach of the Indian men’s cricket team from 2014 to 2021, which included twin test series wins in Australia.
The 54-year-old is a former left-arm spinner from Hyderabad who played 35 first-class matches and 15 List-A games.
He kicked off his coaching career in 2001. He is a Level-3 certified coach who has served the India U19 team in the dual role of assistant coach and spin bowling coach. He was at the National Cricket Academy as an assistant fielding and spin bowling coach from 2008 to 2014. Before joining the Indian team, he had a brief stint with Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League.
