David Warner surpassed Aaron Finch to become Australia’s leading run-scorer in T20I cricket.

Australia opener David Warner and his former captain Aaron Finch were involved in a hilarious moment during the AUS vs OMN match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after the left-hander became his country’s leading T20I run-scorer.

Australia defeated Oman by 39 runs on Wednesday night in Barbados to get their campaign underway with a victory.

While Marcus Stoinis starred in the game with both bat (67* off 36) and ball (3/19), Warner played his part in Australia’s win by scoring 56 runs in 51 balls, though his strike rate of 109 wasn’t ideal even considering some sluggishness of the surface at the Kensington Oval. Australia posted 164 runs, which were 39 runs more than what Oman managed.

During this knock of 56 runs, David Warner created history as he became Australia’s leading scorer in the shortest international format. He went past Finch’s tally of 3120 runs and ended the game with 3155 runs in T20Is.

Incidentally, Aaron Finch was sitting in the commentary box as he is part of the commentary panel for this tournament.

Aaron Finch claps for David Warner from the commentary box, Warner gives back a wave

Both Finch and Warner shared the dressing room for a long time and opened in numerous white-ball matches for their country.

They share a great bond and their camaraderie was visible when Finch clapped at Warner even though his record was broken. Warner observed Finch clapping from the commentary box and gave back a wave and had a big smile on his face.

The commentators laughed at this awesome moment between two of Australia’s finest in white-ball cricket. Finch also burst into laughter along with commentators Mpumelelo Pommie Mbangwa and Matthew Hayden.
