The stadium, constructed in Ganjari, is designed to accommodate around 30,000 spectators. The project was announced to have a budget of INR 450 crores and will be crucial to Uttar Pradesh’s growing cricket infrastructure.
The stadium’s unique design has drawn a lot of attention to its first look. Its architecture incorporates elements associated with Lord Shiva, including trident-shaped floodlights and a pavilion design inspired by the traditional damru. The construction of the Varanasi Stadium has progressed rapidly in 2026. Reports in June indicated that around 90% of the construction work had been completed. The project is now moving towards its final stages ahead of a potential opening in late 2026.
This venue will have nine pitches, and all its facilities are being developed in accordance with international standards.
The project was launched in September 2023, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in the presence of several cricket icons, Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri.
From India’s perspective, this is just another cricket stadium, but for the people of Varanasi, it could become a major sports hub. Moreover, it will provide the Eastern Uttar Pradesh region with modern, international-standard facilities and offer the opportunity to watch both domestic and international matches.
