The IND vs ENG semi-final 2 will be played on Thursday at Providence Stadium, Guyana.

The second semi-final at the ICC t20 World Cup 2024 promises to be a thrilling contest as two powerhouses of world cricket, India and England, will face each other at the Providence Stadium, Guyana.

Team India, who are unbeaten so far, will take on defending champions England on Thursday (June 27). So, the stakes are high with a place in the final on the line.

The momentum is with India, but England perhaps have a psychological edge having defeated the Asian giants by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final in Adelaide.

IND vs ENG: Head-to-Head

India have faced England in 23 T20Is so far and the head-to-head record between the two is really close. India have won 12 games, while England won the remaining 11.

IND vs ENG: Top five player battles to watch out for

5. Rohit Sharma vs Reece Topley

The way Rohit Sharma batted against Australia must have rung the alarm bells for England. If the Indian captain can carry on, then England might not have a chance. That’s why they need to get Sharma out early.

Reece Topley will be crucial with the new ball for England. Rohit has had his struggles against left-arm quicks who can swing the new ball into his pads. He has been dismissed four times by left-armers at this tournament. Topley also has the ingredients to dismiss Sharma in the powerplay. The English pacer has dismissed the Indian captain twice in ODIs.

4. Virat Kohli vs Adil Rashid

Virat Kohli has looked out of sorts at the tournament so far. India would be hoping that Kohli’s best has been saved for the knockout rounds. England won’t go by his current form because his stature is very high. He can anchor the innings and also score runs at a good pace. Kohli could very well return to form in the IND vs ENG semi-final.

Adil Rashid is someone who has enjoyed bowling against Kohli. Rashid has dismissed him nine times in international cricket, which is the most among current English bowlers.

3. Suryakumar Yadav vs Jofra Archer

Suryakumar Yadav announced himself to the world when he hit a six off Jofra Archer off the first ball of his international career. After that, these two players also played for Mumbai Indians together and must have faced each other in the nets.

But now, these two will be up against each other on the biggest stage and it will be a great battle in this IND vs ENG clash. Suryakumar and Archer are both in good form, which makes this battle an interesting one. Archer has dismissed Suryakumar twice in T20s in 23 balls.

2. Jos Buttler vs Kuldeep Yadav

Jos Buttler will have a big responsibility on his shoulders to take England to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final and defend their crown. He returned to form against the USA. Buttler has good numbers against India. He played an excellent innings when England thrashed India in the semi-final at the 2022 edition.

Hence, it will be important for the Men In Blue to see the back of the England captain. Buttler has a weakness against leg spinners and Kuldeep Yadav has enjoyed bowling against him. Kuldeep has dismissed Buttler five times overall and has a good match-up against the England skipper.

1. Phil Salt vs Jasprit Bumrah

Phil Salt is another dangerous batter at the top for England. He bats in only one way, which is to go after the bowling from the onset of his innings. Salt won’t change his approach and will look to put the Indian bowling unit under pressure.

India need to get rid of Salt in the early overs. Jasprit Bumrah will be the man assigned to this task. Bumrah has been at the peak of his game, picking up crucial wickets and containing runs. So Salt against Bumrah will be an exciting battle to watch out for in the IND vs ENG semi-final.
