The two matches of the SL vs IND Test series will be played in Galle and Colombo, respectively.

After a break of 19-20 days, Team India will be back in action for their next international assignment. They are touring Sri Lanka for the two-match test series. The first test is scheduled to be played at Galle International Stadium, starting on August 15 (Saturday).

Since 2017, this is the first time that India will play a Test match in Sri Lanka. They enjoy a great record against their neighbours and have not lost a Test series since 2008. Shubman Gill and Co. will look to carry on the streak and win the series.

This is an important series for head coach Gautam Gambhir. India have been going through a tough phase in red-ball cricket.

But India still have a good chance to win, and they will also be looking to earn much-needed points on the World Test Championship 2025-27 table. Meanwhile, the upcoming series will also see the return of Ajinkya Rahane, who announced his retirement a couple of weeks back.

Ajinkya Rahane has been in the headlines for the last couple of weeks. The former Indian captain announced his retirement from international cricket on July 30, 2026. He played 85 Tests, 90 ODIs, and 20 T20Is, scoring 5,077 runs in Tests, 5,962 runs in ODIs, and 375 runs in T20Is.

A week after retiring, Rahane announced his participation in the inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), where he will represent Amsterdam Flames. Now, Rahane is all set to make his commentary debut with the upcoming SL vs IND test series.

The former Indian captain will make his commentary debut with Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV, who have the broadcasting and streaming rights for the upcoming series. It will be Rahane’s maiden stint after an international career spanning 18 years.

Rahane confirmed the news and said, “I’m excited to make my Test commentary debut for India’s tour of Sri Lanka on the Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV. Test cricket is the pinnacle of our sport, and having represented India in the format for so many years, it is a privilege to now look at the game from a different perspective.”

Sony Sports Networks also confirmed Rahane’s introduction to the panel. Chief Revenue Officer and Business Head, Sports and International, Sony Pictures Networks India, Rajesh Kaul said, “He makes his Test commentary debut on Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV; viewers will get to hear his perspective on the format he knows so well.”

When will the SL vs IND Test series start?

The Test series will start on August 15 (Saturday) at Galle International Stadium.
