More than 60 players went unsold in the WPL 2024 auction.

Following WPL 2024 auction, attention turns to the notable players who, despite their evident talent, went unsold. The list of players who didn’t get picked opens up a bigger discussion about how teams are put together, showing us the hard choices teams have to make, how players are valued, and the difficulties faced by those who didn’t get chosen.

Among the unsold players were distinguished overseas names like Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, Australia’s Kim Garth, and West Indies’ Deandra Dottin. Despite their previous successes, these players, along with young talents like Uma Chetry, found themselves among the 61 players who did not attract bids in the inaugural WPL auction in 2024.

As teams had only 30 slots vacant to fill going into the auction and a total of 165 players were registered, only 90-100 players managed to be called out in the auction table. Out of them 30 were lucky to find buyers, but there were the unfortunates who couldn’t strike a deal under the auction hammer.
