Rishabh Pant got hit in nets and has been ruled out of the India vs New Zealand three-match ODI series due to side strain.
Indian Cricket Team were dealt with a massive blow ahead of their first ODI against New Zealand on Saturday. Rishabh Pant, was struck on right abdominal area while batting in the nets as he facing throw-downs. The 28-year-old went down in pain as the support staff rushed to Pant to check on his condition.
Pant, has now been ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak was the first to rush to check on him after the Indian star got injured. Curiously, captain Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir who were standing in the background seemed hardly bothered to check on Pant, who was in massive pain.
That caught the attention of many as they kept talking despite Pant wincing in pain right in front of them. The video of the incident went viral on the internet with many lashing out at the captain and coach for their antics.

It is to be noted that Pant, hasn’t played an ODI for India since July 2024. KL Rahul has taken over the wicketkeeping mantle in the 50-over format. The Men in Blue play the first ODI on Sunday against New Zealand in Vadodara.
Massive blow for Rishabh Pant’s ODI return ambitions

28-year-old Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant’s dream of making his return to the ODI side was dented after his latest injury issue. Pant, missed nearly year and half of cricket post his accident in December 2022. The left-handed batter had made his return to cricket in 2024 and played a key role in India’s T20 World Cup win the same year.
So far, Pant, has played 31 ODI matches for India scoring 871 runs with five fifties and a century that came against England in 2022. The 28-year-old has an average of 33 and strike-rate of 106 in this format of the game. As a wicketkeeper, Pant, has taken 27 catches and affected one stumping.

28-year-old Rishabh Pant was leading a star-studded Delhi side that included Virat Kohli (for 2 games), Ishant Sharma, Navdeep Saini, and Nitish Rana in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Pant, played seven games for his side and scored 212 runs with an average of 42.3 and also took 11 catches and affected one stumping.
KL Rahul is expected to feature in all three ODI matches as the wicketkeeper and also bat in the middle-order. However, with Pant getting ruled out, BCCI has named Dhurv Jurel as his replacement.
