Abhimanyu Easwaran was part of the Indian squad in the recent test series against England.

Abhimanyu Easwaran’s father, Ranganathan Parameshwaran Easwaran, has revealed that head coach Gautam Gambhir has assured his son that he will get a long run in the test team. The right-hander was part of the Indian squad during the last two test series against England and Australia; however, he was not picked in the playing XI.

During the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, Easwaran was in contention to be picked in the fifth test at The Oval. However, the team recalled Karun Nair in the playing XI after dropping him in the fourth test.

Hence, Easwaran was denied the much-awaited opportunity. The right-handed batsman has a marvellous record in first-class cricket, scoring 7841 runs in 103 games at an average of 48.70. However, he is yet to make his test debut.

He was disturbed after not being picked for the fifth test: Abhimanyu Easwaran’s father

During a conversation with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Easwaran’s father revealed that his son was disturbed after not being picked for the final test against England.

“My son will fly to Bengaluru to prepare for the Duleep Trophy. He’ll spend 10-12 days there, return to Dehradun for a few days, and then head back. He was disturbed after not being picked for the fifth Test-he was expecting that call”, he said.

“I told him, ‘Son, you have lived your dream.’ He replied, ‘I understand. I’ve lived my dream for 23 years, and not getting picked for one or two matches won’t shatter that”, he added.

His father also revealed that Gambhir has assured his son that he will get his opportunities soon and get a long run in test cricket.

“Gautam Gambhir, when he spoke to my son, assured him, ‘See, you’re doing the right kind of things; you’ll get your turn; you’ll get a long run. I’m not the one who will push you out after one or two matches. I’ll give you a long rope,” he added.

“That’s what my son communicated to me. The entire coaching team assured him that he’ll get his due; he’ll get his long run. That’s the best I can say. My son has been waiting for 4 years. He’s put in 23 years of hard work,” he further added.

Meanwhile, Easwaran will be next seen in the Duleep Trophy 2025-26, which commences on August 28. The 29-year-old is part of the East Zone team in the tournament.

He is highly likely to be picked in the India squad for the home test series against the West Indies in October. The two teams will play two tests during the series starting on October 2.
