Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from the T20Is and tests.

Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly made a big statement on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli‘s desire to play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. He said that it won’t he easy for them as the India Cricket Team will be playing only 15 ODI games in a year.

Two legends of Indian Cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are slowly moving away from the game. The duo announced their retirements from T20Is after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and then recently called time on their test career just ahead of the ongoing series against England.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be there only in ODIs. Both the stalwarts of the game have expressed their desire to be there till the ICC World Cup 2027. But, they will be seen less in action because India is not scheduled to play many ODIs till the tournament.

However, playing this long won’t be easy for them as the tournament is still two years away from now. Also, with both being in their late 30s and not many ODIs being there, it will be an uphill task for both players to keep themselves ready for the games.

All of us must understand, just like everyone, the game will go away from them – Sourav Ganguly on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Sourav Ganguly, however, was quick to admit that both players will move away from the game. He also shared his take on will the two will be there for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 or not. Speaking to PTI, he said:

“All of us must understand, just like everyone, the game will go away from them, and they will go away from the game. It won’t be easy (to play ICC Cricket World Cup 2027), with 15 games a year,” he added.

Sourav Ganguly was also asked if he had any advice for them, to which he said, “I have got no advice. I think they know the game as much I do. They will take a call.”

Ganguly also talked about Virat Kohli’s replacement, saying: “I was not concerned at all. Virat is a class player. Finding his replacement will take time. But the rest, I wasn’t surprised,” he concluded.
