Gary Kirsten said he was delighted with Gautam Gambhir’s achievements with Indian team.
Former Indian Cricket Team head coach Gary Kirsten praised current Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir following India’s brilliant show against England Cricket Team in the recently concluded test series. The five-match series between England and India ended in a 2-2 draw.
The Shubman Gill & Co. made a fabulous comeback in the fifth test at The Oval, London, clinching a victory by just six runs. Pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna led a brilliant pace attack to help the team bowl out England for 367 runs in the second innings while defending a 374-run target.
Siraj, with 23 wickets across five games, finished as the highest wicket-taker in the series. He played a crucial role in the team’s victory at Edgbaston and The Oval. Gill, with 754 runs and four centuries, finished as the highest run-scorer to win Player of the Series award.
I’m really pleased for Gautam Gambhir: Gary Kirsten

While speaking during an event in Delhi, Kirsten said he was pleased with Gambhir’s achievements with the Indian Cricket Team.
“I’m really happy for the Indian cricket team for levelling the series and it’s great for Indian cricket. I’m really pleased for Gautam Gambhir as well, I know him well. Really delighted and pleased for what he’s achieved with the team,” he said.
“They’re doing really well at the moment. We all get excited by the success of the Indian team. I certainly do and they’ve got a great bunch of young players coming through now and it’s really exciting to be supporting them,” he added.
Gambhir was appointed as Indian Cricket Team’s head coach in July last year. Under his guidance, India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, he also faced a lot of criticism for India’s home test series defeat against New Zealand and then in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.
Gambhir’s next focus is Asia Cup 2025, which will commence on September 9 in UAE. India will look to defend their title in the tournament, which will be played in T20I format this time around. India are part of Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman.
