Gautam Gambhir picked two spinners in his all-time best India XI.
Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir picked his all-time India XI, in which he included former captain MS Dhoni. Surprisingly, Gambhir didn’t pick current test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma, who is one of the greatest openers for Indian cricket.
In July 2024, Gautam Gambhir became the new coach of the Indian cricket team. Gambhir took over the reigns from Rahul Dravid, who helped the Men in Blue lift the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title in Barbados. Gambhir’s contract with the Indian cricket team is until the end of ICC ODI World Cup in 2027.
His first assignment with the Men in Blue was during the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. India whitewashed Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series. However, the hosts bounced back and won the three-match ODI series 2-0.
Gautam Gambhir picks Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni in his all-time India XI
Recently, in a video shared by Sportskeeda on YouTube, Indian head coach Gambhir picked his all-time India XI. Surprisingly, the former opener excluded the likes of Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, who have been main pillars for Indian cricket in the past few years.
The 42-year-old started with picking Virender Sehwag and himself as two openers of the side. Gambhir then picked legendary cricketers Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar at No. 3 and No. 4 positions respectively.
The former opener placed veteran batter Virat Kohli at No. 5 position. Gambhir picked 2007 World T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup heroes Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni at No. 6 and No. 7 positions.
In the spin bowling department, Gambhir included Anil Kumble and Ravichandran Ashwin. Gambhir also picked former all-rounder Irfan Pathan and left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan in his all-time India XI.
Gambhir’s all-time India XI:
Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni (wk), Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan
