The England series was extremely important for Gautam Gambhir in context of his coaching career.
Indian Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir finally had something to celebrate in his career as India’s head coach. Under him, the Shubman Gill-led side drew the five-match series against the England Cricket Team, in what was the first edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
The series draw was only possible after India came up with a staggering effort with the bat and ball in the fifth game at The Oval in London. Coming into the match, the Shubman Gill-led side was 1-2 down, and they thrived under pressure in what was a must-win game for them.
After the four enthralling days, the game went to the last day, where England were hot favourites to win as they needed just 35 runs to win the game and had one keeper-batter and two all-rounders still left.
India had to take four wickets, and not many gave them a chance to win. However, it was Mohammed Siraj who oozed his class with the ball and put England under pressure right from the ball one on day five. In his first two overs, he picked up two wickets.

Additionally, he then went on to remove Gus Atkinson, who was putting India under pressure. As he removed the all-rounder, the emotions in the dressing room caught the attention of many, especially of head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Gautam Gambhir aggressively celebrated the win with his support staff. The head coach was seen jumping on bowling coach Morne Morkel. The video was posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their social media account.

Coming into the series, Gautam Gambhir was under a lot of pressure as head coach in tests. Under him, India lost a home test series against New Zealand and then suffered a 1-3 loss against Australia at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, missing out on the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final.
