Gautam Gambhir urges fans to stop speculating about who should be India's next captain

Former Indian batman Gautam Gambhir requested fans to stop the speculations around the new Indian captain.
In Indian cricket circuit, there is one hot topic that is never-ending, and that is Indian cricket team’s captaincy. As Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are inching closer to their final days of their careers, fans have once again started a debate around who should be the future Indian captain, with and a few names have been thrown in the ring. Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav are a few names are favourites for the position.
Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has urged fans to stop speculating about who should be leading India. According to Gautam Gambhir, such debates on social media or even in the media put extra pressure on the players. These discussions snatch away the enjoyment of the game for players when they are thrown into the ring with huge expectations. Fans on social media are always up against each other on such topics.
Gautam Gambhir urged fans to stop speculations
2011 World Cup-winning opener Gautam Gambhir said that such debates and discussions are a big problem in India. Gambhir said, “This is a massive problem in India. A captain is performing so well, but we are already talking about the youngsters who are performing well, stating that they could be the next India captain. This question should not be raised, why? Do you have to decide from now itself who should be the next Indian captain?”
Gautam Gambhir further added, “We talk about Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, or Rishabh Pant being groomed. Have you ever thought how much pressure they must be under? If you groom them and they don’t perform well for six to 12 months, would you look at someone else?” Gambhir also raised objections over fans starting to debate about a player just after a few good performances in the International cricket tournament.
Gambhir said, “Any player scores 2-3 hundred, and talks begin about him being the future India captain. If he has 10 poor games and someone else does well, then he is spoken about as India’s future captain. This has been happening for years. I want to urge the fans not to say many things and let players enjoy their game. The selectors will make the best decision for India.” Team India might enter into the upcoming T20 World Cup under a new captain next year.
