Gautam Gambhir’s KKR will play their first match of the IPL 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are riding early on the momentum after their former captain Gautam Gambhir was signed as the mentor for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). The 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup-winner Gambhir has been a legend for the KKR, where the side won two IPL trophies under his leadership.
After homecoming to KKR, Gambhir gave a motivational speech to the Bengal-based franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 edition as he officially took charge as the mentor of the two-time champions KKR. Interestingly, during his first pep talk, Gambhir might have accidentally revealed the IPL 2024 final date, which is not yet officially announced by the IPL governing council.
The Indian cricketing board has announced schedule for just the first phase of the cash-rich league, which will be played from March 22 to April 7. A total of 21 matches will be played in the first leg in home and away format. The second half of the league will be announced after the Lok Sabha polls dates will be announced by the Election Commission of India.
“On 26th May, we should be there”: Gautam Gambhir during the first pep-talk with the KKR squad
While addressing the KKR camp in the first collective meeting with the group ahead of training, Gambhir mentioned that ‘on 26th May, we should be there,’ which points towards it being the date of the IPL 2024 final.
“So everyone needs to follow that one simple path. On 26th May, we should be there giving everything possible, and it starts from today. It’s not gonna start on the 26th. It’s not gonna start on the 23rd,” said KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir
“It starts from today and this is what we want to do. So if we walk the same path and we fight, I’m sure we’re gonna achieve a lot of success. So good luck, guys. Have the freedom. Enjoy yourself. You can ask questions, whether close doors, or in front of everyone. And I can assure you, from a support staff point of view, that we’re gonna be absolutely honest to every one of you. So, good luck,” said Gambhir.
