Gautam Gambhir leaves BJP, steps away from political ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls

2007 World T20 and 2011 World Cup-winning player Gautam Gambhir, who joined politics and became member of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and is currently serving as MP from East Delhi constituency, has announced his decision to step away from politics ahead of the 2024 general elections in India. The former Indian opener Gambhir took to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to share this news with his followers and supporters.
The left-handed batter Gautam Gambhir’s political journey started in March 2019, when Gambhir officially joined the BJP party in the presence of former Union Minister Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad. The former Indian opener also represented the BJP party in the 2019 general elections from East Delhi constituency and surprisingly, Gambhir emerged victorious with a significant margin against his rival leaders.
Why Gautam Gambhir has decides to quit politics ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls?
In his latest social media announcement on the ‘X’ handle, the former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir showed his heartwarming gesture towards the BJP leaders, including Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah, for giving him the great opportunity to serve the people while serving in the BJP party in the presence of their great leadership.
Gautam Gambhir also opened up that he has decided to quit politics as he wants to focus on his cricket commitments and mainly on the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Gautam Gambhir has also parted ways with the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), where he served as a mentor for IPL 2022 and 2023 seasons.
After parting ways with the LSG franchise, the former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor. As a player, Gambhir has led the Shahrukh Khan-owned KKR franchise to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.
