Indian Cricket Team defeated West Indies Cricket Team in second of the two-match test series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, October 14. After India’s victory, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir met the West Indies team in their dressing room in a heart-warming gesture and lauded their performance in the second test.
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy invited Gambhir to their dressing room after the encounter. India defeated West Indies by seven wickets in the second test in Delhi to bag a clean sweep in the two-match series. However, the West Indies players showed a wonderful fightback during the encounter in the second innings.
India piled up 518/5d in first innings of the game after opting to bat first and bowled out the opposition for 248 runs, earning a 270-run lead. After being enforced follow-on, John Campbell (115) and Shai Hope (103) smacked centuries for the West Indies in the second innings, taking the score to 390/10. Jayden Seales and Justin Greaves etched a partnership of 79 runs for the last wicket.
The visitors were expected to lose the game by an innings, however, they bounced back well and set a target of 121 runs for the hosts. Eventually, the Shubman Gill-led side won the match with a half-century by KL Rahul (58*) in the final innings.
Gautam Gambhir lauds West Indies players after Delhi test

While speaking to the West Indies players in their dressing room, Gambhir said that other teams should learn from their humility and humbleness on the field. He also added that they inspire the next generation of West Indies players.
“It’s a great learning the way you guys carry yourself off the field, your humility, your humbleness is something which my team and a lot of teams across the globe has to learn from. Many teams play because they love the game. There are very few teams who have something like West Indies – a purpose to play this game,” he said.
“Purpose is always more important than love. When I look at you guys, I feel that you guys can inspire the next generation of West Indies. I think the way you played in the second innings of this Test match is probably the template which can take West Indies cricket forward, the way you guys fought from No. 1 to No. 11,” he added.
“It’s very easy to talk about hundreds, five-fors. The guys who are scoring hundreds and taking fifers don’t need support from the coaches or the support staff. I think it’s the small contributions that make a team, not the big contributions. Big contributions only make headlines,” Gambhir further said.
