Rohit Sharma is looking forward to play for India in ICC ODI World Cup 2027.
Indian Cricket Team defeated England by six wickets in the 1st ODI at Edgbaston on July 14 and have earned a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The Men in Blue chased down a 259-run target by six wickets with ease.
Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma could not make a mark with his performance in the clash. The right-handed batsman got out for just 11 runs off 21 deliveries with one four. He became a victim of Sam Curran in the eight over.
Rohit, who is only active in the 50-over format, has expressed his desire to play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe next year. However, he has failed to impress with his performance since the start of 2026.
In the three ODI games against New Zealand in January, Rohit got out cheaply for 26, 24, and 11. He came up with a better show in the Afghanistan series in June, scoring 16, 48, and 79 across three matches. In seven ODI games this year, the Indian opener has scored 215 runs at an average of 30.71 with just one fifty.
The former Indian captain is known for comebacks and will be looking for a fabulous show in the 2nd ODI against England. Notably, he has also received good advice from Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Gautam Gambhir urges Rohit Sharma to express freely and play his natural game- Reports

According to a report by SportsTak, Gambhir has urged Rohit to play his natural game and enjoy it. Also, the management wants him to focus on the present and not get bothered by the future.
“Rohit has done a lot for this team and the country in white-ball cricket. The coach wants him to play the way he has played throughout his career and express himself freely,” a source was quoted as saying by Sports Tak ahead of the ENG vs IND 2nd ODI.
“Nobody knows what the future holds. The focus right now is on the present. The team management wants Rohit to have complete peace of mind so that he can give his best whenever he plays,” the source added.
“The way Rohit has been batting under pressure, it seems clear that he needs a bit of time and mental space rather than constant scrutiny. Players of his calibre often deliver their best when they are free from external pressure and allowed to trust their natural instincts,” the source further added.
Meanwhile, the second ODI between England and India will take place on July 16 at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. India will aim for a series victory in the encounter, while England will look to make a comeback to remain alive in the campaign.
