Venkatesh Iyer is yet to represent India in test cricket.

Venkatesh Iyer made headlines earlier this year when he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 23.75 crores at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.

Making his international debut in 2021, Iyer has been in superb form in domestic cricket recently. The Madhya Pradesh all-rounder has impressed with his performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25.

With Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement and speculations about one or two other big names potentially ending their red-ball careers, India are in a transition phase.

Now, former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar has highlighted an exciting prospect, suggesting that the player’s all-round ability can be proved useful for India’s test tour of England in 2025.

Sunil Gavaskar on Venkatesh Iyer

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar identified Venkatesh Iyer as a potential all-rounder for the England tour, emphasizing his ability to contribute with both bat and ball.

He wrote in the Sportstar column, “India must also keep an eye on Venkatesh Iyer, who can be another fine all-rounder and is a left-hander to bat. His bowling too can do with some work, but he has played in England and can be a very good option to have there,

The Indian legend also praised Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made his test debut in Perth in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.

He continued, “The Melbourne Test brought to the fore one of the brightest young stars in Indian cricket, Nitish Kumar Reddy. He came to the attention of the Indian cricket fans with his performances for the Hyderabad franchise in the IPL, and while he had not done much at the first-class level, it’s a credit to Ajit Agarkar and his fellow selectors to have seen enough to pitchfork him into the test arena,
