Australia Cricket Team have suffered a big blow as their star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the T20I series against New Zealand Cricket Team. Maxwell has been ruled out after sustaining a severe injury to his forearm during a net session.

The 36-year-old was hit on his forearm by a shot from Mitchell Owen during a net session. He fractured his forearm in the incident. Due to the injury, Maxwell is also doubtful to play in the T20I series against Indian Cricket Team later this month.

Australia are scheduled to play three T20Is against New Zealand from October 1 to October 4. Later this month, they will host India for three ODIs and five T20Is. The five T20I games will be played from October 29 to November 8.

Josh Philippe replaces Glenn Maxwell for New Zealand T20Is

Meanwhile, Josh Philippe has replaced Maxwell in Australia squad for the T20I series against the BlackCaps. After the injury, Maxwell has returned home and will consult with a specialist in a few days. Josh Inglis, Cameron Green, Pat Cummins, and Nathan Ellis are a few key players, who aren’t part of the T20I tour.

Australia updated squad: Mitchell Marsh (C), Alex Carey (wk), Travis Head, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Ben Dwarshuis, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood, Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe.

Notably, Maxwell will be a crucial part for Australia heading into the ICC T20 World Cup next year, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka. The upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and India will be critical phase in Australia’s preparation for the ICC tournament next year.

Meanwhile, the first T20I between New Zealand and Australia will be played on Wednesday, October 1 at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. The second and third games will be played at the same venue on October 3 and 4. Michael Bracewell is the captain of the hosts New Zealand.
