A glimpse of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's performance in ENG vs IND T20I series

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his international debut in the 2nd T20I between England and India.

After consistent performances in domestic cricket, the junior national team, and the Indian Premier League (IPL) since the start of 2026, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi eventually made his debut for India in the ENG vs IND T20I series.

The left-handed batsman earned his national call-up in the two-match T20I series against Ireland in June; however, he was benched in both games.

After Sanju Samson’s poor show in the first washed-out T20I against England at Riverside Ground, he was replaced by Sooryavanshi as an opener in the ENG vs IND 2nd T20I at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on July 4.

Following his debut, Sooryavanshi became the youngest-ever player to represent India at 15 years and 99 days, breaking the long-standing record held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. However, Vaibhav could not replicate his heroics for the Indian Cricket Team.

In his 1st game, the young star got off to a good start, hitting two sixes off pacers Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue. However, his aggressive approach did not last long, as Jos Buttler stumped him off Will Jacks’ bowling in the 5th over. Unfortunately, he lost his wicket ahead of the powerplay, scoring 14 runs off 10 deliveries.

The third T20I at Trent Bridge was a highlight of his debut game, in which he started well with two sixes but lost his wicket soon, scoring just 13 runs off five deliveries. This time, the young Indian sensation fell victim to pacer Jofra Archer; the ball took the edge of his bat and went straight into the hands of wicket-keeper Jos Buttler.

The left-handed batsman aimed for a comeback in the 4th T20I in Bristol, but failed to make a mark once again. He hit a six and a four before losing his wicket to Archer once again. He scored just 15 runs off 10 deliveries.

Hence, Vaibhav has witnessed a similar result in all of his first three games, and England have attacked his weakness to restrict him from going big.

Now, he will make another attempt to showcase his might in the 5th T20I against England, which will be played on July 11 at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. Since this is the fifth game of the series, it will be the last chance for Vaibhav to showcase his batting might.

Vaibhav’s scores in the ENG vs IND T20I Series

  • 1st T20I: Did not play
  • 2nd T20I: 14 (10)
  • 3rd T20I: 13 (5)
  • 4th T20I: 15 (10)
