Greg Chappell also pointed out that India have won many games without Jasprit Bumrah recently.
Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has shown a brilliant form in the ongoing test series between England Cricket Team and Indian Cricket Team. The right-arm pacer picked five-wicket hauls in both the games he played in the series.
With 12 wickets in two games, Bumrah is the second highest wicket-taker of the ongoing five-match series. However, his five-wicket hauls went in vain as India lost both the games. Notably, Bumrah’s inclusion in the fourth test is yet to be confirmed. Ahead of the series, Indian coach Gautam Gambhir revealed that the Indian pacer will only play three out of five tests in the England tour to manage his workload.
Bumrah was rested for the second test at Edgbaston. Now, he will play one game out of the remaining two matches. Hence, India might rest him in the fourth test to keep him available for the final encounter. However, he might also be part of the next game as it is a crucial game for the visitors.
Greg Chappell urges India to stop relying on Jasprit Bumrah
In his column for ESPN Cricinfo, former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell advised India to stop relying on Bumrah. He noted that India should focus on collective performance.
“And a word on Bumrah: the obsession with whether he plays or doesn’t is missing the point. India have won plenty of Tests without him recently. The key is not individual brilliance, it’s collective performance,” he wrote.
“Teams win when everyone does their job. When the captain makes sure each player is clear, confident, and committed to the plan. That’s the formula,” he added.
Meanwhile, India trail 1-2 in the five-match series. They need to win the fourth test to keep their hopes of series victory alive. The fourth test will commence on July 23 at Old Trafford, Manchester. India have never won a test match against England in Manchester in the past.

Meanwhile, spinner Shoaib Bashir has been ruled out of remainder of the test series due to a finger injury. England have added spinner Liam Dawson to their squad as his replacement.
