GT Captain Hardik Pandya fined for slow-over rate vs Punjab Kings in IPL 2023
Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans defeated Punjab Kings by 6 wickets and one ball to go.
Hardik Pandya, the Gujarat Titans (GT) captain, has been fined by the IPL governing council as his team was found behind the required over rate in their recent IPL 2023 match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 13.
After winning the toss, Gujarat Titans (GT) decided to bowl first. The opening pair of Prabhsimran Singh (0) and the in-form Shikhar Dhawan (8) were taken out by Mohammad Shami and Joshua Little.
Despite the fact that just one PBKS hitter, Matthew Short (36), got over the 30-run threshold, there were few contributions from Jitesh Sharma (25), Sam Curran (20), and Shahrukh Khan (20).
Mohit Sharma, who was playing in his first IPL match since 2020 and finished with 2/18, helped GT to restrict PBKS to 153/8 in 20 overs.
Wriddhiman Saha scored 30 in 19 deliveries at the start of GT’s chase, and while Shubman Gill managed to hold onto one end of the wicket, GT continued to lose wickets at the other end. Skipper Hardik Pandya made 8 runs and Sai Sudharsan scored 19 runs.
Shubman Gill scored 67 runs in 49 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six, and the final over decided the contest. David Miller continued to bat undefeated at 17 in 18 deliveries, and Rahul Tewatia scored 5 runs in 2 balls to help GT win by 6 wickets with one ball remaining.
For his 2/18, Mohit Sharma was named Player of the Match.

However, Hardik Pandya, the Gujarat Titans was fined by the IPL governing council for a slow over rate offence.
“Gujarat Titans Captain Hardik Pandya Has Been Fined After His Team Maintained A Slow Over-Rate During Their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) Match Against Punjab Kings At The Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium In Mohali On 13th April 2023. As It Was His Team’s First Offence Of The Season Under The IPL’s Code Of Conduct Relating To Minimum Over-Rate Offences, Mr. Pandya Was Fined Rs. 12 Lakh,” a statement by IPL said.
GT will next face RR at home in Ahmedabad.
