The five-time champion Mumbai Indians will start their IPL 2024 campaign with GT vs MI clash on Sunday.

The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) made many changes pre-season to make the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 a memorable one. They brought back Hardik Pandya to the squad and made him captain. Now, the all-rounder will lead this new-look MI team, and Rohit will play purely as a batter.

MI will start their campaign with a game against Gujarat Titans (GT), the former franchise of Hardik. It will be a packed house. Mumbai will be without Suryakumar Yadav, so that will be a big miss. So they will have to reshuffle the pack. Here we will talk about the possible Mumbai’s playing XI for the GT vs MI clash in Ahmedabad.

GT vs MI: Mumbai’s predicted playing 11 vs GT

1. Ishan Kishan (wk)

Ishan Kishan will be back in action after all the off-field controversies and getting sacked by BCCI from central contracts. But this is the time for him to show everyone that he belongs on a big stage. He has always done well for MI, and he will look to make an impact right away.

2. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma will be playing as a batter, and it must have taken away some pressure from his shoulders. He can now play freely, and we all know the damage he can do with the bat. Rohit is coming off a successful test series and will look to get into rhythm ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

3. Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma is expected to bat at No. 3, where he played in 2023 and did well. The southpaw has improved his power-hitting and is now a better batsman. In the absence of SKY, he will look to take more responsibility, which can bring a lot more from him.

4. Hardik Pandya (c)

The new MI skipper, Hardik Pandya, is expected to bat at No. 4 in place of injured Suryakumar Yadav. Hardik has got everything to be the game-changer with the bat, and he will try to take MI to victory. Adding to that, his bowling will be another factor that can create differences between the two teams.

5. Nehal Wadhera

Nehal Wadhera made his name after some good knocks in 2023. He showed that he is a good power-hitter who can take on the bowling attack and do well. Nehal is also a good player of spin, which is very important for a middle-order batter. He will be batting at No. 5, and his role will be to add quick runs in the end.

6. Tim David

Tim David is coming off a brilliant T20I series against West Indies and has been adding more shots to his batting. The big right-hander already made a name for himself by playing some good innings for MI. And once he gets set, he can be unstoppable.

7. Luke Wood

Luke Wood is expected to get a game because of his all-round ability. MI have some good overseas bowlers, but Luke will get an edge. He is coming off a successful PSL season for Peshawar Zalmi, where he contributed with bat and ball. Luke makes a good left-arm angle and can swing the ball long.

8. Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla will be the premier spinner for Mumbai and can be very effective in the game. He has good numbers against right-handers, and GT have four in the top five. Hence, Chawla can be the one who can take the game away from Gujarat.

9. Shreyas Gopal

Shreyas Gopal is another spin all-rounder MI can pick. He is another leg-spinner who bowls wrong-un more, and that is one of his main strengths. He can bowl at any stage, which makes him an asset for the team. And not to forget, he is capable of hitting big sixes when required.

10. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah will be the one whose performance will decide whether MI is winning or losing. Bumrah has been fantastic over the years, and still there is no answer from him. GT need to play his four overs carefully because his spell is enough to change the game. Bumrah will be returning to the IPL after missing the last season, and he would spice up things just like he does always, with the ball.

11. Akash Madhwal

Akash Madhwal delivered a brilliant performance and took 5/5 in the last season to announce himself. He will be in action for sure, and MI will hope that he can make an impact on Sunday. He is good at the start with the new ball and has the ability to bowl on hard lengths to trouble the batters.
