Gujarat Titans rope in Dasun Shanaka as Kane Williamson's replacement for the IPL 2023

Kane Williamson, after suffering knee injury in the first match of IPL 2023 was ruled out of remainder of the tournament.
During the opening match of the IPL 2023 on March 31st, 2023, Kane Williamson sustained a knee injury while trying to catch a ball at the boundary against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. As a result, Gujarat Titans utilized Sai Sudarshan as the impact player, who replaced Williamson. In that game, Gujarat Titans emerged victorious by 5 wickets.
Williamson was holding a crucial position in Gujarat Titans' top order. Although he had a disappointing season in 2022 and was eventually released by Sunrisers Hyderabad due to his poor performance. In the 2022 IPL auction, Gujarat Titans acquired Williamson at a low price, hoping he would bring stability to their top order. However, his injury during IPL 2023 will undoubtedly be a significant setback for the GT management's plans.

With Kane Williamson out due to injury, Shanaka has been selected as his replacement in the Gujarat Titans team for IPL 2023. Shanaka, who is Sri Lanka's white-ball captain, is an explosive middle-order batsman with a right-arm seam bowling ability. He has showcased his skills in the recent T20I and ODI series for Sri Lanka, scoring a total of 245 runs in six innings with a strike rate of 187 in the T20Is and averaging 62.00 in the same series. He was bought for his base price of INR 50 lakh and is set to make his debut in the TATA IPL. As Gujarat Titans do not have many overseas all-rounder, Shanaka's all-round abilities could prove to be invaluable for the team.
