In a statement move by Gujarat Titans (GT), the 2022 champions have made a significant move in the backroom staff.

Gujarat Titans appoint Matthew Hayden as batting coach for IPL 2026

One such significant development has been reported ahead of the upcoming season of the IPL, as the former Australian great Matthew Hayden has been roped in as the batting coach of the GT.

The appointment of Hayden in the support staff of GT includes head coach Asish Nehra and Parthiv Patel. Patel is also a batting coach for the team. The decision by GT to appoint Hayden in the same capacity is aimed at enhancing their batting skills.

Vikram Solanki, Director of Cricket at Gujarat Titans, said:

“Matthew’s appointment comes at a pivotal phase in our journey. As a franchise committed to excellence and long-term success, we are constantly focused on strengthening our cricketing ecosystem. His experience at the highest level, coupled with his ability to mentor emerging talent, will be instrumental in shaping our batting identity for the seasons ahead.”

Speaking about his new role, Hayden said:

“Good batting applies pressure. Great batting owns the game. That’s the standard we want to set at Gujarat Titans.” 

In IPL, he played 32 matches for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and won the Orange Cap for being the highest run getter in 2009 and the championship in 2010. A two-time ODI World Cup winner, he has previously worked in a coaching capacity for the Pakistan team.

Hayden has had a legendary career as a player and has been a successful commentator and mentor in the T20 format. Hayden’s appointment signals Gujarat Titans’ intent to bolster their coaching setup as they gear up for another exciting season of the IPL.
