Harbhajan Singh has named his India wicket-keeper for T20 World Cup 2024.

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has named his wicket-keeper for the Indian team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The debate for who should BCCI selectors pick for wicket-keeping spot in the upcoming ICC event has been going on for some time.

At the moment, five players are seen as top contenders- Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, and Jitesh Sharma. Another keeper, Ishan Kishan despite being an impactful batter at the top of the order for Mumbai Indians, is unlikely to be considered purely because of his batting position.

With India needing someone to bat in the middle order, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik are the more viable choices. Jitesh’s performance for Punjab Kings in the ongoing IPL 2024 has been poor, putting him down the selection ladder.

Rishabh Pant has shown his fitness for Delhi Capitals after returning to action after 14 months away from the game due to his car accident. Pant has kept wicket in all games for DC thus far and scored two fifties as well, with a strike rate of 150.

However, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes the place should go to Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) captain. The former off-spinner believes there should be no dispute over Samson’s inclusion in India’s T20I XI. He even stated that the Kerala cricketer should be groomed as India’s next T20I captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma.

Samson has been highly successful as a batter and captain for RR in the ongoing IPL 2024. He has scored 314 runs in the eight matches that he has played so far this year at a strike rate of 152.3. RR need only one more win to qualify for the playoffs as they have 14 points from 7 wins in 8 games.
