Hardik Pandya and Co. registered their third win of IPL 2024 by defeating Punjab Kings.

Match No. 35 of IPL 2024 was a nail-biting game. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) kept everyone on the edge of their seats and the game, which had many turns, ended in the favour of the five-time champions. Hardik Pandya and his men registered their third win of the season, which helped them add two points on the board and jump to seventh place.

The game was in the bag for MI in the first four overs of the second inning and was almost pulled away by some exceptional batting from the lower-order batters of PBKS. Especially Ashutosh Sharma, who hit his maiden IPL fifty off just 23 balls, took his team to a winning position. But, they were not lucky enough to cross the line. It was a good game for MI, but all didn’t end well for skipper Hardik Pandya.

IPL 2024: MI skipper Hardik Pandya slapped with an INR 12 lakhs fine

IPL 2024 has seen many ups and downs from MI skipper Hardik Pandya. MI started with three consecutive defeats, faced massive criticism from the fans and now their first slow overrate scenario. The all-rounder was found guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct of the IPL. As a result, he was fined INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow overrate. Notably, this was the first such instance for the five-time champions in IPL 2024.

In a press release after the Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings match on Friday, BCCI said, “Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, on April 18.” However, the slow overrate almost took the game away from them.

They were not allowed to keep more than four players outside the inner circle in the last two overs. The MI captain himself bowled the 19th over and took the wicket of Harpreet Brar (21 off 12). However, Kagiso Rabada smashed a six off the very next ball. But, he got run out on the first ball of the 20th over and PBKS fell short by nine runs in the end. Jasprit Bumrah won Man of the Match for his 3/21.
