Haris Rauf concedes 533 runs in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023; Most by a bowler in one edition of World Cup

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf conceded 533 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Pakistan cricket team have been under fire in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They have badly underperformed in the tournament and disappointed everyone looking for some action-packed bowling efforts from the likes of Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan. Pakistan bowlers have failed to curtail the run-flow in most of the games. Pakistan conceded more than 330 runs on four occasions in the ongoing tournament.

Pakistan right-arm-pace bowler Haris Rauf has made another record he wouldn’t have wished for in the tournament. Rauf has now conceded the most runs by any bowler in a single edition of World Cup. Rauf may have been among the wickets several times but he was Pakistan’s most costly bowler in the tournament. Rauf conceded 533 runs in 9 games in this World Cup. Haris Rauf picked up 16 wickets in the tournament, including 3 against England in Kolkata.

Haris Rauf overtakes Adil Rashid

Haris Rauf bowled 79 overs in 9 games and conceded 533 at an economy rate of 6.74. Rauf left behind England’s leg-spinner Adil Rashid who conceded 526 runs in the World Cup 2019. Rashid was England’s one of the biggest match-winners in the previous edition. Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka is not far behind as he conceded 525 runs in 9 games in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Madushanka picked up 21 wickets in the tournament and remained the leading wicket-taker for a long time.

Pakistan’s other trump card in the tournament, Shaheen Shah Afridi’s economy rate stands at 5.93 with 18 wickets in 9 games. Pakistan were banking on these two to do well in the crucial tournament when needed. Shaheen Afridi picked up 2 wickets against England conceding 72 runs in his 10 overs while Haris Rauf picked up 3 wickets conceding 64 runs. Rauf was hit for 33 in his first 3 overs but came back nicely against Joe Root and Ben Stokes.

England have set a target of 338 runs for Pakistan to win their final league game in the World Cup 2023. Pakistan have lost early wickets in their chase and are struggling once again in the tournament. England need a win to secure their place in the ICC Championship Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. Pakistan have missed out on semi-final qualification closely consecutively, they missed the semi-final berth due to a low net run rate in the 2019 World Cup as well.
