Indian women’s team marked their return in red-ball format with a one-off test match series against England starting on Thursday at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Indian team had a great start to the test match with their magnificent batting display on day one. Satheesh Shubha’s (69) and Jemimah Rodrigues’ (68) mammoth 115 runs stand for the third wicket provided India a platform for a big total as they went above 350.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was unfortunate in the first innings and got out just one run short of her maiden test fifty in a bizarre way. Harmanpreet Kaur played a drive through the off side and set herself for a single to complete her career milestone but as soon as the fielder came closer, Indian skipper refused the run and began approaching her batting crease. In an unfortunate way, Harmanpreet Kaur’s bat got stuck in the pitch.

Indian captain Harmanpreet already suffered a similar run-out earlier this year when her bat got stuck in the pitch resulting in an unfortunate dismissal. The incident happened against Australian women’s team in the Women’s T20 World Cup in February 2023. In the 15th over of India’s chase, Harmanpreet Kaur ran for a single off Georgia Wareham’s delivery, where she completed one run and ran for the second where her bat got stuck in the pitch when she was approaching the crease.
This resulted in an unfortunate dismissal as well as made India collapse in their chase. Harmanpreet Kaur scored 52 runs in that game and she was taking India to a magnificent win against Australia at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. Australia came out winning the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup by 5 runs after Harmanpreet’s run-out. India lost 4 wickets in the next 5 overs and fell short by the barest of margins.
