England’s young cricket sensation, Harry Brook, has publicly admitted to his regrettable comments made during IPL 2023 season. The 24-years-old batsman, who experienced a rollercoaster journey in the tournament, acknowledges his lapse in judgement and its impact on his mental health. This revelation comes as Brook takes a proactive step towards preserving his well-being by distancing himself from social media platforms.

Harry Brook’s rise in international cricket earned him a lucrative spot in Indian Premier League, with Sunrisers Hyderabad acquiring him for a hefty sum of Rs 13.25 crore. Despite a stellar start to his international career with impressive performances in test cricket, IPL proved to be a different challenge for Brook. The pressure mounted as questions arose about his ability to justify the significant price tag attached to his name.

Harry Brook’s revelation

Brook’s IPL journey saw both highs and lows, with a notable century at Eden Gardens standing out as a testament to his potential. However, the promising start was overshadowed by a subsequent dip in form, leading to scrutiny from social media trolls.

“I was an idiot, and I said that stupid thing in an interview, which I regret a little bit,” Brook confessed, acknowledging the impact of social media on his mental state. He explained that being in India, away from the comfort of his routine, exacerbated the situation. “I find myself just scrolling through Instagram or Twitter and coming across stuff you just don’t want to see,” he said.

Realising the detrimental effect on his mental health, Brook took a bold step by deleting social media apps from his phone. Despite still having active accounts, he has handed over the reins to someone else to manage them on his behalf.

“I’ve been off social media for a while now. Anything I stumble across, I delete from the phone. I haven’t really seen any negativity. I think that’s helped my game, helped my mental health, and everything to be off social media and seeing all the negativity that brings,” Brook shared.

As he gears up for the IPL 2024 season after being released by Sunrisers Hyderabad, Brook emphasises the importance of this mini-break for rejuvenating himself both mentally and physically.
