Harry Brook has so far played 26 ODIs and 44 T20Is for England.

On Monday, April 7, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced appointment of Harry Brook as the new white-ball captain. Brook will now lead England‘s ODI and T20I teams going forward. The appointment comes after Jos Buttler resigned from the position following England’s group-stage exit at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Brook is a powerful batter who has been part of England team across all three formats for the last few years. Notably, he was named as vice-captain of England’s white-ball side earlier this year. So far, the right-handed batsman has featured in 26 ODIs and 44 T20Is for the national team.

I am excited to get going and give everything to England team: Harry Brook

Following his appointment, Brook thanked everyone and proposed to show his best efforts for England after taking over as the white-ball skipper. He also added that he always dreamt of leading the national team.

“It’s a real honour to be named England’s white-ball captain. Ever since I was a kid playing cricket at Burley in Wharfedale, I dreamed of representing Yorkshire, playing for England, and maybe one day leading the team. To now be given that chance means a great deal to me”, the England batter said in a statement.

“I want to thank my family and coaches who’ve supported me every step of the way. Their belief in me has made all the difference and I wouldn’t be in this position without them. I’m excited to get going and give it everything I’ve got”, the 26-year-old further added.

Notably, Brook was part of the Jos Buttler-led England side that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. However, this year, the England youngster had struggled to excel with the bat in limited-overs cricket with a batting average of 18.20 in five T20Is and 16.16 in six ODIs.

England are bound to travel to Zimbabwe next month for a one-off test match. Later, they will host West Indies for three ODIs and three T20Is, where Brook will make his captaincy debut for England. The series will witness the first ODI on May 29 and conclude with the final T20I encounter on June 10. Currently, England players are busy with Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Notably, Harry Brook pulled out of the IPL this year and currently faces ban of two years from the league. A choice he made to become England’s white-ball captaincy.
